Greetings,
It took a little while for Heidi to be able to contact us. The lower glacier is a difficult place to get cell phone reception.
The team is moving to Camp 2 at 11,200 feet today. They apparently double carried from Base Camp to Camp 1 at 7,800 feet. they then carried a load up to about 10,200' and buried it in the snow. We call this making a cache. Today, they will climb up past the cache and continue into a beautiful basin, surrounded bu ice cliffs and striking rock ridges.
Tomorrow will be an easy day where they will drop back down to their cache at 10,200' and dig it up. The return to Camp 2 should only take an hour or so. Days like this enable the climbers to acclimatize to the new elevation while getting a bit of exercise.
The snow on the lower glacier is fairly thin, as cold temperatures have prevented much new snowfall. Heidi reports that someone poked into a crevasse on the lower glacier, but did not plunge all the way through. Never a dull moment!!
I'll update as I get new reports.
